The Park Region Conference Cross Country Meet was held at Wadena on Tuesday. Bertha-Hewitt won the boys’ team competition with 37 points and Ottertail Central finished second with 70 points.  Third place went to Ashby-Brandon-Evansville (85), followed by Wadena-Deer Creek (116), Parkers Prairie (149), Pine River-Backus (152), New York Mills (172) and Pillager (244).  Brady Rach of Bertha-Hewitt won the boys’ individual title with a time of 17:35.1.

Wadena-Deer Creek scored 40 points to win the girls’ team title.  United North Central was runner-up with 62 and OTC took third with 78.  They were followed by Pillager with 121, New York Mills (128) and Pine River-Backus (204).  Anjalie Aho (20:43.3) of UNC won the individual girls’ championship.

“A-B-E was missing a couple runners, but many stepped up to run fantastic races,” said Head Coach Robert Bosma.  “For the guys, Logan Froemming continues to improve setting a new PR by over 10 seconds. He is really motivated and wants to push the team right now. With a half mile left, he was in 6th place. I told him he needed to make a move now to get 5th and he took off. He found a new gear and held it off. Wes Siira was very determined to do well. He wanted to be one of the top guys again for us this meet and he pushed very hard for the entire race. This was the best race of the year and was good enough to be All-Conference (top 15 places). Jayden Hoidahl continues to be hindered by his hip injury, but since he is a senior and doesn't have time to heal, he is pushing through the pain. He came in 16th, which is honorable mention All-Conference (places 16-20).”

Bosma continued, “On the girls’ side, Lacey Siira and Hope Rovang stepped up from normally running Junior High races to run with the varsity.  They ran strong throughout and proved to be more comfortable than their last 5k.”

The Section 6A meet is on Friday at Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood.
