The Brandon-Evansville Chargers won a five set Little Eight Conference match in Underwood on Thursday night, beating the Rockets 25-22, 19-25, 26-24, 18-25, 15-7.  “I was proud of my team for playing hard and remaining composed even with an injury to senior Alayna Evavold, and against the B-E team who came prepared to play,” said Underwood Head Coach Breck Grove.

Rocket leaders were Mily Albjerg (14 kills, 9/10 serving 1 ace, 11 digs), Jorja Gabrielson (7 kills, 12/13 serving, 4 solo blocks, 2 block assists), Brooke Christianson (6 kills, 15 digs, 14/15 serving), Kallyn Grove (42 set assists, 17 digs, 8 kills, 18/18 serving), Elizabeth Lukken (13 kills, 17 digs, 29/30 serving, 1 ace) and Becca Johnson (12/13 serving, 14 digs).

“Tonight we saw a great match at Underwood,” said Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Kelly Olson.   “I liked that we came ready to play.  I saw a different team than we were not only from a month ago, but we were also different from Monday.  The biggest difference for us was twofold.  First I thought we played much better team defense.  Our ability to block effectively and pick balls up off those blocks was much better.  We also did a much better job of reading the hitters from the back row. Getting a few more touches on offense gave a few more attacks.  I felt in the sets we won we had good pressure on Underwood.  We played with more focus.  I think we let set 4 slip away.  Underwood was on the fence and could’ve lost that set, but they held on and in the end really took it to us.  Even set five was a roller coaster with us jumping to a 5-2 lead only to see them tie it back up at 5.  We fought through a tough stretch there in set five and really played well to finish them off at 15-7.  Overall, it was a fun match to be a part of and we look forward to trying to get better moving into a road match on Tuesday in Sebeka and hosting Wheaton on Thursday next week.”
