Area Cross Country Runners Prepare for Biggest Race of the Year at St. Olaf

Hillcrest runner Katie Holzner will compete in the Class A State Cross Country meet on Saturday at St. Olaf College in Northfield.  Holzner qualified 7th overall at the Section 6A race last Friday in Staples with a time of 20:12.0.  Her time secured her a place as one of six state qualifying individuals from the section.  Her personal best time this season is 19:49 which she ran at Moorhead at the beginning of the season.  The girls’ Class A race begins at noon on Saturday.

Kendra Miller of Bertha-Hewitt and Norah Froslee of Ottertail Central will also be competing in the girls Class A race.

Perham, the second ranked team in the state in Class A, will also be represented after finishing as Section 8A champions.  Gracie Morris is the number 12 runner in Class A according the the lates State Cross Country Coaches poll.

The Perham boys, also Section 8A champs, have Bjorn Anderson and Micah Thompson ranked third and twelfth, respectively, while the Yellowjackets are ranked second in the team rankings, behind Heritage Christian Academy.

Charlie Larson of Pelican Rapids qualified with the fourth fastest time at the section 8A meet and will be joined by Owen Winter of DGF and Benjamin Geeslin of Hawley as top six individual qualifiers from that section.

Fergus Falls qualified for the Class AA State Cross Country meet with their second place finish in Section 8AA last Thursday in Alexandria.  The Otters are making their first team appearance in the state meet in 24 years.  They have been ranked as high as number six in the AA State poll.  Alexandria won the 8AA title and will also be competing at the meet on Saturday.  They are among the top teams in the state in Class AA and have been all season.
