The Underwood girls’ basketball team went 23-4 last season, finished as runners-up in Section 6A and won the Little Eight Conference with a perfect 12-0 record.  The Rockets only lost two seniors to graduation, and neither of them were able to play last season due to injuries.  That means, their returning group has extensive varsity experience to once again challenge for a conference title.

“We return everyone off of last year’s team, but we will miss the leadership of Ezrah Baker (out with an injury) and her defensive intensity,” noted Hovland.  “If we can stay healthy we should still be very deep.”

Returning letter winners include seniors Mo Bugbee, Zoey Swanson, Amelia Blaskowski, Becca Johnson and Alayna Evavold, juniors Liz Lukken and Ezrah Baker, sophomores Kallyn Grove, Mily Albjerg, Esme Larson and Sophie Ravenscraft, and eighth-grader Trinity Baker.  Freshman forward Emma Dirkmann will be a new face on varsity, vying for court time.

Hovland, who will be assisted by Carly Jensen, says Hancock and Wheaton are the top challengers in the Little Eight, while New York Mills and Henning join the Owls and Warriors as the teams to beat in Section 6A.
