Lakes Elite 17's Compete in National Volleyball Tournament in Orlando

The Lakes Elite 17’s volleyball team traveled to Orlando, Florida this week and played in the National 17’s Tournament at the Orange County Convention Center, which has 152 courts.  The local team finished 31st out of 154 teams competing in the 17’s club division.  “Our club started 2 years ago to fill a need in the Lakes Area to allow some of the area’s best athletes to play at a high level, while still being able to compete in multiple high school sport,” noted Underwood volleyball coach Breck Grove.  “Last season, our 3 teams were made up of athletes from 9 area schools.”

 

On day one the Lakes Elite team went 3-0 in pool play.  For day two, they were placed in another pool and went 2-1.  “Day three we saw some great competition that really elevated our level of play,” stated Coach Grove. 

They finished 1-2 which place them in the Ruby B division.  On day four, the Lakes Elite squad had a first round by and then beat their first opponent 2 sets to none.  In the championship game of this division, the Lakes Elite girls beat a team from Massachusetts 25-13, 18-25, 15-13.  They finished with an overall tournament record of 8-3.

“It was an amazing experience with great parents and players,” added Grove.

The team was made up of players form the 17u and 16u Lakes Elite teams.  During the regular season, Diane Ross and Jacey Ross coached this team.  Brianna Pearson coaches the 16’s along with her mom, Renae Rasmusson, and is the club director.  The 14’s are coached by Laura Revering and Sydney Hovland.

For the Orlando trip, the team consisted of the following players and coaches:

Sebeka – Annika Pulju
Pelican Rapids – Anna Roisum
New York Mills – Ayla Olson
Barnesville – Abby John
Coaches – Becca Pulju (Sebeka), Breck Grove (Underwood)
