The Hillcrest volleyball team hosted Underwood in a Section 6A quarterfinal matchup on Friday night with the Comets prevailing in 3 sets, 25-12, 25-13, 25-20. " We came out strong," said head coach Debi Foss of Hillcrest. "We had our game plan and the girls executed it to perfection. Everyone had a role to play and it was so fun to watch. Thank you to all of the fans for your support and for packing out the gym! It's amazing to watch our G.R.I.T.T. theme continue to be lived out on and off the court! Let’s Go Comets!"
The Comets were led by Emily Adams (10 kills, 4 set assists, 8 dig, 2 blocks), Ruby Peterson (1 kill, 33 set assists, 14 digs, 1 Ace), Ella Knutson (10 kills, 7 digs, 1 block), Elsa Retzlaff (11 kills, 8 digs, 1 Ace), Maddie Miller (12 for 12 serving, 7 digs), Kaia Miller (2 kills, 5 digs), Kenzie Miller (8 kills, 3 blocks) and Chloe Walkup (12 for 12 serving, 13 digs).
"It was certainly a memorable game for our seniors to have on their home court for the last time," added Coach Foss.
Underwood was led by Sia Olson (10/10 serving, 17 digs), Kallyn Grove (10/10 serving, 17 set assists, 12 digs5 kills), Lauren Hexum (7/7 serving, 1 ace, 8 digs), Mily Albjerg (11 kills) and Maggie Hoekstra (6/6 serving).
Underwood finished 17-12, 3rd in the Little Eight conference with a 7-2 record. "We competed in all games we played this year and overall had a great season," commented Underwood head coach Breck Grove. "I wasn't sure what to expect since we had lots of big shoes to fill after last season. The veteran players did a great job of leading and the new players stepped in nicely. It will be fun to see how this team does in the future. Thank you to our seniors, Kallyn Grove, Mily Albjerg, Esme Larsen, Addison Lanoue, and Lilly Borgos for a great season and careers as Underwood Rocket volleyball players.
Hillcrest will face Breckenridge in their next match on Tuesday at the Kennedy Secondary School Gold Gymnasium in Fergus Falls.
